My Health Guru Calley, Hello, I always seem so down and have no energy. It’s hard to get out of bed in the morning. I have no time (and extra funds), for a gym. Can you recommend a few stretches or exercises that can give me a boost in the morning? Hitting the snooze button just isn’t cutting it.

My Health Guru Calley,
I always feel lightheaded. And my attention span is wack!
Friends tell me i might have low iron (I am a girl).
Are there any foods or vitamins you can
recommend I take?
Help me please,
Tired In NYC
Dear Tired In NYC,
Yes iron, iron, iron. You might be slightly anemic. Another lovely perk of being female. Persons with anemia may feel tired easily, appear pale, and become unusually short of breath. Women are more likely than men to have anemia because of the loss of blood each month through…menstruation!! Gotta love those men! Iron deficiency anemia is common and in adults is most often due to chronic blood loss. This can be from menstruation or from small amounts of repeated bleeding (which can be very subtle). What to do?
Nosh on foods that are a good source of iron which include:
- liver
- lean red meats, including beef, pork, lamb
- seafood, such as oysters, clams, tuna, salmon, and shrimp, etc.
- beans, including kidney, Lima, navy, black, pinto, soy beans, and lentils
- iron fortified whole grains, including cereals, breads, rice, and pasta
- greens, including collard greens, kale, mustard greens, spinach, and turnip greens
- tofu
- broccoli, Swiss chard, asparagus, parsley, watercress, Brussel sprouts
- chicken and turkey
- black strap molasses
- nuts
- yolks
- dried fruits, such as prunes, dates, raisins and apricots
Iron supplements are available but it’s always a better idea to eat the mineral that foods naturally have. Most are high in fiber anyways giving you the satisfaction of feeling full.
Also during your period it’s a good idea to stay active. Hit the weights or do some cardio your body will feel less bloated, not so achy, and the cramps won’t be so excruciating. Also make water your best friend and stay hydrated.
Hope this wakes up your body!
Love yourself!

Thanks for your advice Calley!! I do wonder why liver tops your list?! LOL if i were you I would point people toward the yumminess of Shrimp, Chard and Nuts right away!
Oh my Hopa Lopa! Liver is one of the most iron enriched foods besides certain excreations I will not point people towards. I definately recommend sticking to the nuts!
