My Health Guru Calley,
Ok we all have our vices, so please help. I need to clean up my body. If you could recommend quitting smoking or drinking, which do you think would be most beneficial to me?
Dear Luscious Lush,
First things first: a vice is considered an evil or immoral practice or habit, a flaw or imperfection; a defect.
Whether your vice is drugs, smoking, drinking, food, or even another person; the fact that you use anything as a vice has negative side affects. If you get into the habit of using your vice as a way of coping with or forgetting what the underlying problem is, and feel negative affects the next day then you should concentrate on switching to positive habits. Join a gym, take some Pilates, yoga, zumba, or spin classes to release built up tension. Hang out with positive people who love life and friendship and do activities like having dinner, going for coffee, anything where you aren’t expected to sit in a cloudy room of smoke drinking from a King’s cup. Call a friend you haven’t spoken too in years and find out how they are doing (it doesn’t have to be all about you!!). Family and true friends will always be there for you if you are needing support, so let them know. Start a journal and keep to how you feel, your thoughts and emotions, rather than a diary of events. Go to Paris!!
Ultimately we just want to be happy within ourselves. No one person or thing will fulfill this until you can find comfort in yourself. It might be time to do a little soul searching before you let your vices get out of control. Even if it’s not affecting you now it could catch up with you later on in life and then it gets harder to nip it in the butt. Even if it’s a Saturday night feel free to lay low and opt out of hitting the bars just to be able to relax with yourself. It’s OK to take time for taking care of you! It’s easier said then done to quit bad habits. Remember it’s about progress, not perfection.
Love yourself,
My Health Guru Calley
Thanks Calley, and remember…slow and steady wins the race!
